In mid-2004, Jobs announced to his employees that he had been diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his pancreas.[48] The prognosis for pancreatic cancer is usually very grim. Jobs, however, stated that he had a rare, far less aggressive type known as islet cell neuroendocrine tumor.
After initially resisting the idea of conventional medical intervention and embarking on a special diet to thwart the disease, July 31, 2004 Jobs underwent surgery that successfully removed the tumor; he did not apparently require nor receive chemotherapy or radiation therapy. During his absence, Timothy D. Cook, head of worldwide sales and operations at Apple, ran the company.
In early August 2006, Jobs delivered the keynote for Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference. His “thin, almost gaunt” appearance and unusually “listless” delivery, together with his choice to delegate significant portions of his keynote to other presenters, inspired a flurry of media and internet speculation about his health.
According to an Ars Technica journal report, WWDC attendees who saw Jobs in person said he “looked fine.” Following the Keynote an Apple spokesperson said that “Steve’s health is robust.”

Liputan6.com, Jakarta: Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono menegur keras seorang peserta yang terlihat mengantuk saat mendengar pidatonya. Kali ini terjadi saat Presiden memberikan pembekalan pada acara Forum Konsolidasi Pimpinan Pemerintahan Daerah yang diselenggarakan Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional, Selasa (8/4).
Hampir satu jam Presiden memberi pembekalan pada acara yang dihadiri para Bupati, Wali Kota, dan Ketua DPRD Tingkat II se Indonesia itu. Ketika tengah mengkritisi budaya pemborosan energi, tiba-tiba Presiden menegur seorang peserta yang mengantuk. “Coba bangunkan yang tidur. Kalau tidur di luar saja,” kata Presiden.
Ini bukan kali pertama hadirin tertidur saat mendengarkan pidato Presiden. Tahun lalu dalam sebuah kesempatan beberapa hadirin terlihat tidur. Bisa jadi karena kelelahan atau karena ia tidak tertarik pidato Presiden.
